I don’t know about you, but breakfast is a big deal in my house. My teens love to go out for breakfast—it’s our little ritual when we’re at home, and even more so when we’re travelling. This windswept surf town isn’t just about beaches and kitesurfing, it’s also a paradise for breakfast lovers.
Tarifa has a mix of Andalusian traditions (think fresh bread with olive oil, tomato, and café con leche) alongside modern brunch culture: smoothie bowls, artisan coffee, and everything in between. Here are some of our favourite spots to start the day.
Café 10
Tucked into the old town, Café 10 is cosy and buzzing with locals and travellers alike. It’s great for families because the menu is wide: juices, crepes, sandwiches, and hearty breakfasts that please both adults and kids.
Número C
If you’re a coffee person, this is your spot. Número C roasts its own beans and serves some of the best specialty coffee in town. Pair your flat white with their Turkish eggs.
Surla
Surla is a Tarifa breakfast classic. Close to the beach, it offers a bigger brunch-style menu—eggs, smoothies, pancakes, healthy bowls. Perfect if you’re planning an active day and need something substantial.
Café Azul
A long-time traveler favorite, Café Azul is famous for colorful smoothie bowls, fresh juices, and variety of toasts. My kids especially loved the crepes here.
Andrea’s Brunch
Beautiful fruit bowls, homemade cakes, and savory brunch options. Slightly tucked away, it’s ideal when you want a slower morning. I am a big fan of Andrea, as she is an animal lover and adopted one of my kittens 🙂
Element
Creative, health-conscious brunches with a plant-based twist. Think elevated avocado toasts, cold-pressed juices, and fresh salads.
Helena’s Café
Cosy and homely, with a balance of Spanish breakfast staples and international touches. A good, relaxed family option. They also offer cooking courses.
New Moroccan Café (Batalla del Salado)
A Moroccan breakfast is a family favourite – we are often found at the Algeciras market breakfasting. So imagine our delight when a Moroccan breakfast spot opened this year. We highly recommend the rghaif (layered Moroccan flatbread) with honey or cheese, plus fresh mint tea. Affordable, authentic, and a different taste of Tarifa.
Bonjour Tarifa
A charming spot for those looking for a healthy, homemade breakfast. Their artisanal granola and chia pudding are absolute winners—perfect for starting the day with something light yet nourishing. They also serve good coffee and have a cosy atmosphere.
Powerhouse
This is the breakfast spot to see and be seen!
Tangana
If you want breakfast on the beach this is a popular spot, Tangana (on Valdevaqueros beach) is unbeatable. Sit with your toes in the sand, sip coffee or fresh juice, and enjoy tostadas or a beachy brunch before a walk or surf.
El Olivo
Located at Punta Paloma, this was a winner for me this summer. They had the best tostadas with tomato and iberian ham. A great choice before taking the e-bikes out!
El Pastelito (Takeaway)
Sometimes the simplest option is the best. El Pastelito is perfect for grabbing authentic french pastries – their croissants and baguettes are unbeaten in this neck of the woods!
